Letter from General Enoch H. Crowder to Curt B. Rollins - October 11, 1917

Transcript

War Department Office of the Provost Marshall General Washington October 11, 1917. Mr. C. B. Rollins, Columbia, Missouri. My dear Curt: I have an idea that everything relating to armament of our soldiers has been studied by experts and analyzed to the limit. I therefore fear that this suggestion of yours is one that has been canvassed and rejected. I would be very glad to see some truly American way of winning this war devised. I dislike to think that we are going into the war with no new methods or original American methods. I suspect, however, that the hand grenade is better than the shot gun for the purposes of this war. Very truly yours, E. H. Crowder Provost Marshal General EHC-hjc
