TERMS OF ARMISTICE between SCOLES, TONY, and THE UNDERSIGNED LEAGUE OF NATIONS Inasmuch as said Scoles, Tony, is desirous of an armistice which will lead to a permanent peace, we, the undersigned, after much thought and consideration have decided that the culprit must agree to the following terms to show his good intentions, after which, if he completes said terms to the letter, we will dictate the PEACE TERMS. Following are the terms that much be complied with:- 1. Pay all debts and indemnity to your fellow-townsman, Chauffeur John K. Holmes. 2. No further moochings, fawnings, slandering, and toadying upon said Holmes, will be tolerated, to wit. 3. For the satisfaction of the lesser powers of the Royal Sanctum Sanctorum, the Kitchen, said Scoles will remain ALWAYS on the outside of the barrier which separates the Kitchen from the Common Rabble. Furthermore, he will indulge in nothing more then "Seconds". He will be extremely polite to the Cooks, K.P.'s, and shall salute the Mess Sergeant with extreme care. He will cease all rowdyism in, around, or about said Kitchen and will conduct himself in a gentlemanly manner, if such is possible. Extreme care will be exercised in the gargling of soup, inhaling of rice, and mastication of the lesser foods. Under no conditions will he crab the food under the dire penalty of having his eyes torn out by the roots and cast in the mess line to some unfortunate brother who is on the end of the line, taking his place just to show that he has the interests of the boys at heart. 4. That same Scoles will not be absent or late at any formation, particularly Reveille. In this respect said Holmes is relieved of all responsibility in the matter of awakening said Scoles. He will arise early, WASH, and awaken his unfortunate comrades, to whose lot it falls to be burdened with his association, and in a polite and gentlemanly voice inform them that it is time for them to arise. After breakfast he will thoroughly police the billet and put everything to rights. 5. He will immediately confer with Shylock Pratt in regard to a satisfactory reimbursement. Furthermore, he will discontinue all detrimental and slanderous remarks against the Earlville Leader. 6. All references to said Holmes as chums or pals are absolutely "VERBOTEN". Any violation of this article will lead to an immediate recurrence of hostilities. 7. UNDER NO CONSIDERATION WILL SAID SCOLES ENTER THE ORDERLY ROOM EXCEPT ON THE MOST URGENT BUSINESS. Stomach trouble is not considered as business of the 1st Sgt. or Company Clerk. 8. Furthermore, he will be extremely polite to the 1st Sgt., addressing him in a gentlemanly tone of voice. Sanderous or obscene salutations will cause dire punishment to said Scoles. On days when it be necessary for the party of the First Part of act as Motorcycle Orderly at Company Headquarters, he will report his machine for duty and take his post in the small room set aside for him, which is located at the first landing on stairs in hallway of House No. 11, and to his left. There he will remain until called for by some of the Royalty.

[page 2] 9. Under no circumstances will said Scoles encourage, start, or participate in any brawl or fight or fracas in, about, or around the premises of said Company Billets. 10. Said Scoles will keep his motorcycle in the cleanest condition and should any kick be entered by the Captain in regard to condition of machine, this will be sufficient cause for a G. C. M. 11. Furthermore, to show his good intentions, said Scoles must turn over to Corp. George Pratt all pawn tickets, empty bottles, old clothes, and any SWEETS that he may have in his possession. 12. The writing of magnanimous lies to the Danville Weekly Blat is absolutely forbidden. Only the turht and nothing but the truth will be allowed to pass the censor. Only the highest admiration must be shown for those fellowtownsmen who participated in the rent emergency, either in the U. S. or the A. E. F. No man of his standing or great actions during said fight will warrant any comments on the deeds of much braver men who at least saw action, in some place or other then St. Mihiel. 13. That said Scoles will indulge in the playing of cards only upon the earnest solicitation of others and will not make his presence known by loud and boisterous talk. 14. Lastly, the terms as set forth above will hold good for two weeks, if they are complied with to the letter, after which Peace Terms will be dictated by the undersigned League. Only the most strict compliance with the terms of this document will be the cause of an early and lasting Peace. NO EXTENSION WILL BE GRANTED UNDER ANY CONSIDERATION, EXCEPT PRESENTATION TO THE UNDERSTIGNED BY SAID SCOLES OF TEN (10) POUNDS OF CHOICE CHOCOLATE. (NO MEUNIER WILL BE ACCEPTED.) FIRST ENDORSEMENT I, the undersigned, desirous of bringing about an early peace, so solemnly promise and swear that I will neither break, bust, cut, or misconstrue any of the above terms, and hereby set my hand and seal thereunto this twenty-eighth day of January, A. D. 1919. Should I break any of the above demands, I desire that my Belly be ripped open and my entrails be strewn along the streets of Mayen, to be eaten by the beast of the streets and the fowls of the airs.
