[page 2] on May 14, 1923, and is now serving as such. No record has been found of a Joseph Jeremiah Clemens as a Lieutenant in the Air Service during the World War, but the records do show that one Jerre J. Clemens served in the Signal Enlisted Reserve Corps from December 8, 1917 to September 24, 1918, when he was honorably discharged as a private 1st class. He served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Service from September 25, 1918 to January 3, 1919, when he was honorably discharged. He was called to active duty on March 9, 1918. Since the World War many former clerks of this office who have an expert knowledge of the records, have been retired from service and several of these clerks have been engaged at various times in furnishing information from the official records when requested to do so.
