Sunday October 27th My dearest Mother I am writing in a regular French cafe with a cup of coffee and a bottle of saccharine (there aint no sugar) sitting in front of me and vociferous French all around me. I hope theres a benedictine coming if I can bribe the waiter sufficiently. You know it is now absolutely forbidden to serve an American anything but vin ordinaire and beer we cant even get a glass of port officially
