[page 2] I think I understand why Uncle Julian wanted to get over. You aught to see him. He actually stands up straight & looks like an officer. He also seems to be in a much better frame of mind. I always used to think he was worried about something even when he was Jolly but that air has disappeared altogether. We had a very enjoyable day together as I told you. That is all that is necessary. Use that address all of the time as it will reach me as soon as if I designated the station & does not get things tangled up when I move. It certainly was a surprise to get letters from you all in Champaign. You seem to have enjoyed the trip. The schedule of the day at ground school certainly brought back old times. I certainly never imagined then what there was ahead of me. Gill has never been any nearer a german than I have. The papers certainly get things all tangled up. None of the old crowd have seen action though a great many are ready. Poor old Ortmeyer was kill in England some months ago. I also hear that Jack Payne- the one we met at the Biltmore- was killed at one of the Southern fields at home.
