[page 3] I let loose with a string of perfectly idiomatic French. I forget what it was but it was something that ordinarily a person would not know unless they spoke pretty good French. Well! The old fellow went completely up in the air. He thought I could speak French fluently and was trying to have some fun with him by pretending not to. It took about 20 minutes to get back in his good graces. The towns here are certainly quaint places with their little narrow crooked streets and toy houses. I havn
