Transcript
Washington D.C., October 24, 1917. My dear Mrs. Clarke: I received a telegram from Powie some time ago, and your letter of the 22d on the same subject, namely, his disappointment in being in a class that will receive commissions as Second Lieutenants only, when he had reason to believe that he would be commissioned as Frist Lieutenant. I endeavored to send him a telegram on this subject yesterday, but it was returned to me with the statement that he could not be located. I hope that this letter will have a better fate. Upon receipt of Powie
