STATION HOSPITAL. Fort Sam Houston, Texas. February 17th, 1926. Mrs. Elsie Clemens Clarke, The Buckingham. Saint Louis, [Missouri] My dear Mrs. Clarke: Captain Murphy has handed me your letter of January 21st, reference to your son, Lieut. Powhatan Clark, who served under me at Savegney, France. As soon as he mentioned the name, I remembered that I had received a letter from you sometime age, inquiring about your son, but unfortunately, I misplaced that letter and was unable to reply. I remember something about your son being in charge of some of the troops there were serving under me but I have no very definite recollection about him. March 25/ [1926] Dear Major C- I was very glad to get the letter and will certainly write to Mr. Kil. for the addresses of those officers of the 17th Eng. Personally I knew very view if any of his associates in France and this makes it near difficult to reach others.
