[University Club letterhead] March 17th [1921] My Dear Mrs. Clarke I have your letter of the 9th instant I can assure you that my bill would not have been [ms illegible: 1 wd] for $1200 if I have not been absolutely certain that the amount was fair and I am quite sure that my reputable medical man so [ms illegible: 1 wd] all the facts were known would agree

[page 2] with you as is this at the same time I never have had any litigation about any of my charges ever I do not want any now I am therefore willing to make some adjustment in order to save both you and myself the annoyance of a proceeding in the probate court but it seems to me in fairness to myself the limit of that reduction would be 25 [percent] of the bill or $300.00
