Philadelphia, [Pennsylvania], December 10, 1920. This will certify that I attended the late Lieutenant Powatan Clarke, of St. Louis, at Gloucester, Massachusetts, from July 21, 1920, to July 31, 1920, for bleeding from the lungs. The bleeding was massive, and continued so for about five days, when it lessened somewhat, but the sessions in his lungs had progressed so far that it caused his death. As far as could be made out, both lungs had been affected with the tubercular process and gave evidence of its existence for some time previous to this attack. Lieut. Clarke told me that he had had several attacks, not so severe as the above, while in France on service. He also told me of his being
