Fort Crook, Nebraska, December 20, 1920. Mr. Powhattan H. Clark., Buckingham, Annex., St. Louis, [Missouri] Dear Sir:- Your name is borne on the records of the War Department as one who rendered valuable service to your country during the World War as an officer of the Air Service. The War Department is contemplating, sometime in the near future, the establishing of Reserve Air units throughout the whole country. In order to hasten this important work, it is necessary to get in touch with the former Air Service men, and obtain their active cooperation. By answering the questions on the blanks enclosed, you will be rendering a great service to the cause of Military Aviation. A great many of the questions may seem superflous to you, since the information asked for should already be on file with your military record. While that is perfectly true, you can understand that it would take several months to go over the thousands of records in order to get the particular information needed. I am, therefore, making this call upon your time and patience. Of course, it is understood that answering these questions does not obligate you in any way. Addressed envelope for reply inclosed. Thanking you in advance for an early reply, I am, Sincerely yours [signature] Ira A. Rader Major, Air Service, Air Officer, 7th Corps Area, Note: It is possible that you have accepted an appointment as an officer in the Regular Army since the list from which your name was obtained was made up. In that event, will you please notify me to that effect, and disregard the questions.
