3RD AVIATION INSTRUCTION CENTRE A.E.F. DATE March 6, 1918 FROM; Commanding Officer, TO: 1st Lt. P.H. Clarke, SUBJECT Explanation. The Commanding Officer directs that you report by Indorsement hereon, the reason why you were not present for Reveille March 5, 1918. If explanation is not satisfactory, necessary disciplinary action will be taken. By Order of Lt Col KILNER: [signature] H.W. TITTEL, 1st Lt ASSC USR, Adjt. 1st Endorsement. 1st Lt P.H. Description Powhatan Hughes Clarke served with the 21st Aero Squadron and the Labor Bureau A.E.F. during World War I. He died from tuberculosis August 20, 1920. This memorandum from the Commanding officer of the 3rd Aviation Instruction Center was written to Powhatan Clarke in reference to his missing Reveille. The memorandum includes two endorsements in which Clarke explained his absence and received punishment for it.
