[The Moorland letterhead] [October] 14th Col My dear Col Rockenbach I have been wondering if you have heard of my sons death and want to send you a few lines we left St. Louis end of June he returned to Bass Rocks when the expected to spend the summer we were there only two weeks when he was taken suddenly ill with a hemorrhage and was desperately ill for five weeks. We first took him to a Boston Hospital and then the doctor insisted taking him to Saranac Lake where he died [August] 30th
