June 25th 1918 Camp Dix [New Jersey] My Dear Sister & Family This is the first oppurtunity I have had to write you. well we had some trip I had the best time of my life we passed thru 7 different states and we saw every thing there was to see it was some trip well Lottie I hope you are settled and having a good time I wish the War was over and I was back home again but you never can tell just how long that will be I haven

[page 2] cold it is sure cold here I have slept under 2 Blankets and kept my heavy wool shirt on night and I wasnt any to warm at that. I was in Philladelphia and that is some city believe me just as much under the ground as there is on top we rode the subways and was in Wanamakers store some place it covers 1 solid Block and is 11 stories high it is a mamoth thing we had to look them all over I hope you got my cards that I mailed to you I tried to let all my friends and you & Rachel know all about my trip and I might of

I havent heard from Clyde since he was in New York I persume he is some where in France now of course you can never tell he might be in Italy there is some talk of us going there but you know as much about it as we do well Lottie please ans. right away as I cant tell how long we will be here will give you all the information possible when I get your Loving Brother Bob San. Robert Chilson served with the Sanitary Squad #2, 89th Division. Robert Chilson was also the brother of Clyde Chilson who died on October 16, 1918 during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. He served with Battery B, 129th Field Artillery, 35th Division. |
