On Active Service WITH THE BRITISH EXPEDITIONARY FORCE Somewhere in France July 6th 18 Darling Mother & all :- Just a line to let you know, I’m still going to think of you all were day, but don’t have time to write. The 4th was celebrated over here, & all the other allied country’s I guess. Hope you had a nice time. We were twelve days on the water, I sailed on the Steamer “Carpathian”. It was the old boat that rescued the survivors of teh “Titanic”. I havn’t rec’d any mail yet & guess I will get

Some soon. Mamma, my serial number is 2178191, in case you should want to find out about me from the Gov. Besure to give the number & you can get information so much quicker. I’m a barber now. Chas, got me a pair of clippers before we left, & I get lots of practice. We are having fine weather now, & I never felt better in my life.
