National Service School Georgetown, D. C. April 22, 1917 April 15 - Sun. Reached camp in down pour A dismal landing with a more dismal crowd. Bugle blew for mess. Tentmates Miss Hosmer of Boston and Miss Primrose of Baltimore. A chilly night. April 16 - Mon. Up for physical drill at 6:00 AM. all ate like wolves at mess. Parade ground muddy and slippery.

Never met so many short women. Paddock & Chubbuck of third school in next tent. Cap't Clark a "brick". Sun came out and the entire atmosphere changed. On guard duty from 4 to five o'clock. Entire post-graduate lot assigned diatetics under groans. Instructor, Miss Oliphant of Drexel Institute. Other assigned class work - map reading and drawing, motor driving and repair and radio. opening services at five - M. General Barnett of Washington - Junior Defense League -colors impressive (postgraduates). Many visitors.

Tuesday - April 17. A bright sunny day. Everybody happy and warming up to each other. Began drilling in squads. Officers Lieut. Hopkins, Second Lieut. Hume. & Sergeant Harrison - Duty for day - orderli of tent, orderli in Dewey Hall 4 to 4:30 o'clock. Lecture The Fauna of the World, Prof Scott of Princeton at 5:00 o'clock. After mess marched to Dewey Hall, sang songs, patriotism ran high; played piano and led songs.

Red Cross Day - Boardman lectured.

After study hour a birthday party in front of tent, hat passed around, smuggled in sweets. A toast. In at taps. First night with flaps up Wonderful sleep! Saturday April 21 Diatetics Assignment - apple pie. Duty - guide to visitors 4 to 5 o'clock. Lecture in Dewey Hall after mess. Subject First Aid. Dr. Glasbrook of Washington D. C. moving pictures.

Sun. April 22. On leave for four hours. With Cook, Chubbuck, Benson and Paddock, as guests of Mr. And Mrs. Chubbuck of Peoria, for an auto tour of Washington. Wonderful! Met President Wilson on speedway who retuned our salute. Tea at Raleigh hotel and a bath. Returned to camp by auto just in time for retreat. To bed early.
