[September 9, 1918] Dear Folks: Received two letters today from you dated July 30th and [August] 8th - sure was fine and it has been a long time since I had received one from you - we move so much that it makes mail service bad but altogether the mail service is fine - Uncle Sam takes care of us boys in every way - also received a bunch of Richmond News & Conservators up to middle of July - it is raining tonite - a drizzly cool nite - a good nite to sleep - am glad to hear of Paul's promotion - sure wish he was with us - he will make a good soldier - Gen. Wright is commanding our Corps. Gen. Traub is in command of the division. Ruth I sure enjoyed your letter but as yet I know not where you are going to school - had a letter from Louise today - mother, dear the picture you speak of I am sending you one - we had 6 of them taken and Capt. lost them - was talking about

Clerk had one in his pocket - so I made him give it to me - I wanted to send you one but couldn't find any - am so glad he had this one - it was not my intention to slight you - never as long as I live - you are the first to me - yest I guess Allan has worked hard - tell him to save his money and don't squander it like I did mine - was surprised to hear of Newton being married - seems as if every body is marrying. we boys that come back will be the only single ones left. hear Newt. is attending officer's training camp - hope he makes good - tell Howd to keep going - give him my best regards - tell him these battles remind me of our old football days when we bucked the line - hope he is better - tell him to write if he has time - Lincoln Walker is in the company and OK. says he has been writing to them but has never heard from them - tell Jennie
