[September 17, 1918] Dear Folks:- Just a few lines - have not as yet received any mail - we are still in the big forest - rained today - yesterday and the day before was sure fine - sun was shining and it was sure some fine days - I may not get to mail this for several days but will write it now as I have the time -expect we will move again in the next few days - wish I could tell you where we were but I cant - the Allies are sure doing some great work - the Americans are sure some fighters and are living up to their name - "the best in the world" - the boys are all OK. nobody sick - we have had very little sickness - hope the good luck still continues - guess Allan and Honey is going to school - Aunt Mag sent Tillman some pictures and among them was one in

which Allan was in - gosh, he sure is getting some big - didn't hardly know him - guess he is quite a man - am wondering where Ruth went to school - guess I will hear some time soon - I hear the Camp Dodge Division is over here - dont know for certain - guess Paul will write me as soon as he gets stopped - would like to run across him over here - sure be glad to see him - how is the old town - am anxious to hear some news - guess we will get some mail in a few days - aeroplanes fly over us all the time - guess there is not many of hte boys left back home - has Billie gotten married yet - hear he was to be last month - was a little surprised - am sending you 2 (one franc) notes - This is the kind of money we use over here - have different amounts - a 500 franc note looks like a roll of wall paper - ha! ha! you can keep these are souvenir's - am going to try to bring you home some more when I come back - will try to bring some German relics home as soon as I capture a few of them -expect it won't be long - just came back from supper so will write a little more - Well Dad hows the business - hope it is getting along better - will be glad when I can again sit at the desk in the corner - smoke a few good cigars and write some insurance, loan a drink or two and sell one or two acres of land - ha! ha! don't know any news so expect I had better quit - I am feeling fine and anxious for the time when this War is over and we all can return to the U.S.A. as victors and U.S. acknowledged by the world as the "Daddy of them All" - Mother I will be ready to take on some good hot biscuits and fried chicken -
