[October 31 1918] "Dugout in France" Dear Folks:- We are still in the trenches - received your letter of [October] 3rd - sure glad to get it - hope by this time that you have received the Y.M.C.A. money and also the Liberty Bonds - glad to get the flowers - will put them with my roses you sent as I still have them - am filleing fine - we are sure having fine weather - hope it continues for a month longer so we can give Fritz some more running - guess papers are all full of war - things look good but war is not over - now is the time when we must work the hardest - just keep driving all the time - don't let him get a chance to reorganize - had a letter from Paul - says he is OK - he had just gotten his first mail from the States - says it was 8 wks before he got any - am glad Allan is a good boy and hope he continues that way - do not want him to follow all my ways as I stepped a little fast sometimes - so you think Curly is coming over - my but that would be a

shame to bring him across - he sure is a dandy and yet he expects to live in U.S. the rest of his days and yet does not want to fight for it= so Bob Bates is in hospital - his division must have been going into action - he is one yellow bird - too bad about his ear - hope it wont bother him after the war - it is very funny about Aunt Annie - can't understand her - they are coming to town to live - retired farmers, I suppose - your letters are always interesting - I read and reread them - am glad to hear Ruth is getting along so good - hope she continues - I wrote Elmer a letter the other day - no news to speak of - boys are all OK - was over to the company yesterday - am expecting some more mail in a day or so - oh yes dad I received the war map - I sure treasure it - something I was just wishing for - thanks very much - but we have sure changed the line from where it was - hope all of you are well - tell everyone hello - will write again son - will close - Bye Bye Lots of love to all, your loving son, Kirk OK RKBrady 1st Lieut 140th Inf.
