[October 28, 1917] Sunday nite . Dear Folks: - Has been some cold down here? are getting lumber to wall our tents and going to get a stove. we went on guard yesterday afternoon and came off this afternoon - was some cold on the boys as well as myself - getting along fairly well. Capt Lewis wife is here - she was going back to town last nite in a [MS illegible: 1 wd] and the car turned over. hurt her pretty bad but she is getting along better now - I start to school tomorrow - have heard that it consists of 4 courses of 2 weeks to each course- I report at 9 o'clock tomorrow morn - it will mean some hard study and work but am very glad of the opportunity to attend the school. hope papa makes a trade in his

SE trip. got Allan's letter to day - sure glad to get his football dope. always glad to hear how any of them but have so little time to write that for awhile they will have to read these letters as to all - had a letter from Elizabeth today, the first for nearly a week I think didn't know whether she was still there or not - wind and sand still blowing. all to the questions that mamma asked me will get her letter out and answer them next time - am pretty tired tonite and I am sleepy & tired - didn't get much last nite on guard. Will write you more next time - am feeling fine. write when you can - Goodnight, Love to all, Your loving son, Kirk
