[October] 26th 1918 "Some Dugout in France" - Dear Folks:- Again will I write you a few lines - still in the trenches and everything is quiet - wrote Ruth the other nite - had a letter from the Committee of the Sunday School a few days ago and I answered it and addressed it to Mrs. Dunn - the weather remains cool and damp - we are all well clothed with winter clothes - have good dugouts and plenty to eat so you see we are in good shape for hte cold weather - received a letter from you dated [September] 30th - was glad you had received my letter - am glad Honey and Allan are getting along so well at school - we have neve rbeen close to Gerald Davis - I don't know where he is - have never been able to locate Paul's division or the Funston Division - would like to run across some of the boys - well I am sorry to hear of the way Miss Bertha acts - I always liked her but did not think she would carry on as you say she does - I ight have said something in one of my letters about Louise, I don't remember - I hear from Louise - she writes real interesting letters about her school and the young folks

back home - I really enjoy them - also hear from Miss Bertha and she tells me all the news of hte town - I hate to hear of her trying to make a fool out of me - that is if she thinks she is - I am not blind, still have a mind of my own and intend to use it - I am for settling down when I get home but am going to be sure I am right first and then act - cause I want a peaceful home the rest of my days as I have had enough war and such like - I never hear from Elizabeth since being over here - I wrote her a letter at Mills, one on the ship across, and one or two since being over here but no answer have I ever had - well it is nearly Thanksgiving - my but time passes quick - well the quicker the better and sooner we will get back home - good weather and we can give Fritz lots more real fighting - I am feeling fine and as I had the time - will write again soon - Will close for this time - Lots of love to all Your loving son, Kirk.
