[October 10, 1919] Dear Folks: - Will write you a few lines- we are still resting after our battle and hope we will rest for quite awhile - Cecil, Tuck and myself sent a cablegram to Maurice saying we were all OK. hope you receive it in good time and it will relieve your uneasiness - I received some Richmond News yesterday and also a letter from you and Allan dated [September] 19th - sure did enjoy it - Allan am glad you told me the football dope - hope you make the team and make a good account of yourself - I did my best and think I did credit to myself and R. H. S. - do not show yellow Allan - I never have and I hope if I do that I will suffer for it the rest of my days - if the time

should come for you to go to the colors, boy step to it and go as high as you can - we are whipping Fritz and stepping on his tail so hard that he hollers to stop but we are all deaf and we proceed to step on further until we readh Berlin and hoist Old Glory on the Kaiser's House - am glad papa is feeling better - sorry to hear Christine is so low - hope she is better - mail service is getting lots better - we had an entertainment yesterday by Y.M.C.A. - 3 American girls & 2 men - They sang and told jokes - sure enjoyed them also hearing a woman talk in U.S. language - Allan I made out your French but am not very well posted but will try to write you some time soon if I can find the time to figure some out -

am glad Ruth likes he rschool and hope she gets along OK - I know she will 0 say let Allan play football - that will help him to develop himself - am glad Ray was to see you and no doubt he could answer lots of your questions - guess he enjoyed his visit - the boys thta pulled thru the battle OK are feeling fine - wish I could tell you details but can't - I am fine - still fat as ever but I wished I was not so fat when the bullets were whistling - ha! ha! - things look good for the Allies - hope you are all well - I will write when I can - don't worry as I am OK - wil ltry to cable you every once in a while - Johnnie was gassed but not bad - is in hospital now but will be out in a few days - don't know
