[October 16 1918] Dear Folks: - Guess we are settled for awhile - we are in the trenches - a quiet sector just to hold the line and keep Fritz from crossing should he even think of it - hope we won't be o nany drive for awhile as we all want to take a good rest - I am now with Regimental Hdqrs as Reg. Scout and Intelligence Officer - am still carried with "G" but on Special Duty - still address my mail as you always have - we have fine dugouts, warm and dry - would like to spend the rest of the war here - presume you read all the "peace" stuff - I don't think much of it and I hope to be able to help push him out of Germany - Allies are doing fine and fighting hard - we have not had much bad weather as yet but guess it is about time - raining and cool today - how's the weather with you? - I am feeling fine and in the

best of health - hope all of you are the same - am going to write Ruth this week - received a letter from you on the 13th dated [September] 16th - sure enjoyed it - about time for some more mail - Cecil, Tuck & myself agreed to send a cablegram as one to save money & time - so Tuck saw the Chaplin first and sent it to Maurice - after it was sent we saw Cecil who said he sent one too - so dont think I neglected thinking of sending you one or that I was hurt - I will sure tell you if I am ever wounded and we will try to send a cablegram to some one of you ever once in awhile - have had a little trouble with my stomach but am better now - I like your piece of poetry you sent and it sure expresses my thots and dreams as well as thousands of others - I have it hanging up in my dugout - yest I expect I know how Ruth felt - expect I have experienced the same feeling lots of times - but there is only one way grit your teeth, set

your jaw and then go ahead - this life is not all filled with pleasure and the paths clear for sometimes you meet obstacles in your way to act as drawbacks - the thing and remedy I find most useful is "to always keep busy and doing something - never sit down to think do that on the run - just got back from supper - had fried potatoes, bacon, navy beans, bread, butter, etc - pretty fair supper dont you think - we get the eats alright - don't know much more news - hope all of you are OK - will close - will write as often as I can - tell all my friends hello and give them my best - Lots of love to all, Your loving son, Kirk OK RKBrady 1st Lieut 140th Inf.
