[November 29, 1918] Dear Folks:- Well yesterday being Thanksgiving was a holiday for us - didn't have turkey but a good dinner so why worry - we are having a spell of bad weather rain and cool - have good warm places to stay - we are still in same place near St. Mihiel - had letters dated [November] 4th & 12th from you - mail is getting better - sure glad to receive them - I know there was big doings when the good news came in - everybody wild with joy - Tillman came then without a scratch - John was gassed but not bad - think he still is in hospital - guess his folks have heard from him by now - am sorry to her of Mortons Mother being dead - hard blow on him - understand Alexander and

Morton were both defeated - guess the bunch there at home helped do it - I don't write about those being killed or wounded because you never know for sure who is - that is the reason I never say - the boys you mention are killed but I have never seen a official list so I wouldn't say for sure - we do not know what will be done with us over here - we are drilling a few hours aday - just enough to keep in turn in case the Germans haven't had enough - I know the news was a great relief to you all as well as us - am so glad we aren't in the trenches for this winter - I suspect it will be several months before we get home but the fighting will be over - had a letter from Ruth - says she likes her school fine and is having a good time - she will be a different girl when she comes home - said she was counting the days till Xmas - hope all of you are still well - I am OK - feeling fine - guess it will soon be time for the discussion of peace - hope they don't parley long over peace details - Germany sure is complying with the armistice terms - she had better is she don't want any more "hot lead" cause us Yanks will sure give her some of it - have plenty
