Somewhere in France May 16 [1918] Dear Folks:- You see I am just somewhere. the place you will have to guess. we are now settled for awhile at least - the country is very beautiful. such pretty green grass - the people are very polite and kind to us. they want to do everything they can for us. they will go out of their way to do some good turn for us. the boys are all well and feeling fine - all want to get in action. have never seen Farris - he is closer to us but have never run into him. we have never received any mail. boys are all waiting for the first mail to get in. that will be some day for the lucky ones

tobacco is very scarce here - can not get American at all, so I think you have better send me some - sure having fine weather here - sun shines and green grass makes a person feel so good. we hear nothing of the war - you folks hear more than we do. guess school is out - the exercises are going on - and Ruth is graduating - can hardly realize it. how is business - getting any better. when you write give me all the news - make them long and many. it is rather hard to understand these people. I am getting so I can talk some French. rahter interesting to learn. may be writing you French letters before long. if I cant say it I make signs.
