July 25th 1918 Dear Folks:- Been some time since I have written you but have been very busy- Co "G" has now taken his part in this world's war - we are in the front line and doing our best killing Germans- which part of the font we are on I cannot say but we are on it - dodge a few bullets now and then - boys are all OK and getting along fine - we are all getting over our nervous as we have been in quite a few days - getting plenty to eat - have had some rain which made trench life rather mean - we received mail up here a few

ago - I got two from you - one back in May the other dated June 24th - guess you have heard of [MS illegible: 2 wds] death - of course I could not tell you until we received the official from the War Dept - he did May 27th - sure was tough brick - he was sick only a short while - Capt wrote his mother a fine letter last nite - I am in my dugout writing by a candle light - Jonnie is in here with me - he stays in the same dugout as I do. I sure am feeling fine - Campt. had aletter from Wickie McDonald today. he is over here "somewhere" - well Dad guess election time is close at hand - do your best for Morton - I have plenty of socks now so dont have

any knit. have such a hard time getting packages. letters are good enough, just so they get here - I can give you no idea to our progress and kind of fighting - only we are getting our share of Dutch - a hard game to play but we can do it when we have to deal with such dogs as the Germans - luck and the good will of God remaining with us all we hope to soon be able to march down "old Richmond Square"- hope all of you are feeling fine Give my best regards to all the friends - Must close and see what is going on outside - will write whenever I can - Love to all Your loving son, Kirk.
