[Knights of Columbus] Boncourt, France [January 28, 1919] Dear Folks - Received your letter of [January] 8th as usual was very glad to get it - weather still remains cold - have had a little snow not much. this has been a busy week. today we had a field inspector of all equipment by the brigade commander. got thru OK. tomorrow we go out for a regimental manuever. next day have a 5 hr. hile. so you see this week is real busy. guess I will leave Thurs. on my furlough for 14 days. will send you cards from different places I go. will be glad to get away for a few days. am expecting a grand time. they say Nice is sure a grant sight. I am feeling fine. no, we are not near the coast. just sitting still. am hoping it won't be long till we head for the

coast and load on the ship for old U.S. am sure ready to cross the "pond". war is over so I want to get back home. guess Pifer is home by now relating tales. he sure is a great boy and some fine soldier. one of the best drill men we had. well, I dont write so often to Miss Bertha if that is the way things lay. dont want to get mixed up in anything like that. guess Parker Irons is very much disappointed in not getting over here. he sure wanted to come. he missed some sights. am glad I got to come over but am ready to come back now. tell Uncle Bob when I get back him and we will take some motoring trips in his car and visit the kinsfolk. am about caught up on walking. I think I have walked enough to last me awhile. I am still with "K" co. it is a pretty good company but not like old "G". of course I have to stand up for it because it is my co. "G" has a better class of men than I have. hope all of you are well and having a

good time. am glad grandma is better. well Dad how is business by now? hope OK. see where Tucker & Son is in business. who is the Son? what is Doc Crowley & partner doing? don't know how much news. hope to have a little more time soon. but as long as we are busy time passes quick. it is about bed time. have to get up in the morn at 5 30 in order to get up. will probably write you the next time in Paris. goodnite.
