[Knights of Columbus letterhead] Boncourt, France [January 21, 1919] Dear Folks:- Received a letter from you dated [December] 26th yesterday - sure glad to hear from you - mother it seems as if today or yesterday is your birthday - any way it is this month - may you see many more days of life filled with sunshine and gladness - you are not getting cold yet but still young for when your soldier lad comes marching home your heart will be young with his - I have tried to uphold our family name in fighting for my country and never dodging my duty - I have never put shame or disgrace upong the father or mother of myself and may I never stoop that low - may the children that you have spent your best days to raise never cause the name of

"Brady" to be lowered - you who have put it to the standard that it has will never see it lowered by me - may the years to come, Mother dear, be to you one continuous round of happiness and joy - keep brave and ont worry for it won't be long till the vacant chair will be filled by a boy who will think will never stop eating chicken, biscuits etc - ha! ha! at last they have separated us and no telling what comes next - Farris has been transferred to 138th Inf. that is in this division - a general shakeup thruout the division - don't know whether I will stay or not - but we grit our teeth and say "some day it will be our time"- I will sty in the regiment but may get a different company - it makes no difference to me as long as I stay in the regiment - am glad all of you had a grand Xmas - does Uncle Bob stay with you? that is the best place for him to stay - quit doing farming and take life easy - hope business is better than last year - had another letter from Jim Conrow the other day - he says they

are going to sail the last of this month - he is with the 91st - gosh, he is a lucky boy - Col. Clark was over yesterday - he is with the 88th - he is sure a friend of mine - I told Paul to drop in and see him and Col. told me yesterday that Paul was in - I am feeling fine - hope all of you are OK. weather has been a little cooler last few days - guess you notice my mark out - just seems like years - Will close - Goodbye - Lots of love to all, your loving son, Kirk.
