[January] 21 1918 [Tuesday] nite. Dear Folks:- Another wind storm today - guess a cold spell will follow - Well, Cecil left tonite for a 7 days leave. he was some tickled boy - don't blame him. our tent caught fire yesterday - burned up - got some of our stuff out. lost a great deal. dont know how it caught. no one in it - I had jsut left it. about 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon - Cecil will tell you all about it - you had better make me another helmet - also a housewife like I had - lost it and everything in it - burnt my suit -think

I can have it fixed - am still in school - sure do like it. government is making a big issue of insurance - want every man to have a policy. [Thursday] we have an inspection by Gen. Wright - we sure have to be in good trim - don't guess I will be in it - will be in school - how is yoru cold - hope it is better - take good care of yourself. Wish I had some insurance - nothing doing out here in that line. boys are all getting along fine - Pifer is O.K. - back on his feet. have told you all the news - guess

you have seen Art - bet he is doing some talking - Cecil will tell you all the happenings - the trenches we went out to see have all been shot up with artillery. we went out to see them Sunday - sure saw some shell holes - will close and go to battalion school - have it from 7 to 8 - if not at drill we go to school - am feeling fine - been taking bayonet this week from Capt. Bailey, (English) - he sure works you - am some sore - hope you all are well. Tell all children hello. hope to see
