Boncourt, France, [January] 1st 1919. Dear Folks:- Want to start the New Year right so I know of no better way than to write to you - time has surely sailed by - and I hope that it continues to fly will we hit the U.S.A. - today is a holiday for us - no work to do - the band played last nite - boys all enojyed it - today the sun has shined a little - very few days that it shows itself - and it never misses rainng a little each day, wather is not cold as you would think, had a letter from Jim Conrow saying he was OK - his division is in the army of occupation - he is located in Belgium, was sure glad to hear from him - hope that the "flu" has let up - they sure are dying fast with it - hated to hear of Mrs. Pres Hill & Mrs. Maurice Roberts death - have never been able as yet to get to the 138th Inf. to see about the Maddox boy - they are located quite a ways from us - well Dad you will have more time this year to look after your business hope you have a big year - see where Dr. Crowley & his partner have started in the real estate business - who is going to be Tucker's partner when Harrison leaves - he would be a good partner for some one - he is a good rustler - by the papers I see they have been doing a

good business - also see where "Capt. Johnson" makes a few - saw where you sold the JOhn Esrey land - Loan business ought to pick up - you ought to have a car so you could get out and get next to who wants to buy & sell - but then no one to leave in the office - I sure am ready to get into business right - want to settle down and live the comforts of life - my allotment will be up this month - dont thin kI will make another but wait a month or two and see just where and what is going to be done with us or those officers who do not desire to stay in service - that is exactly me - but never the less I am ready to stay till U.S. says every-thing is safe - dont want to have to make another trip like this - I am feeling fine - believe I am getting fatter - this army life sure agrees with me - I hope all of you are well - am looking for some mail today - would be a nice New Year's gift - all the "G" boys are OK. Milligan & Farris are bot halright - talk with them every day - Best wishes to you all for a Happy & Prosperous New Year - "the happiest you have spent", will write when I can, hello to all my friends - Lots of love to all, your loving son, Kirk.
