[December] 5th 1918 - Dear Folks:- Am still near Commercy - received a letter from you dated [November] 7th - no I was not wounded nor gassed - Capt. was safe - somebody just started something - dont believe everything you hear - I will write you all about it - yes I sure do enjoy your letters - mail service is getting so much better - am so glad - guess school has started by now - so Hiram has got in business - am glad he has - is Chas. Bernard working for him or Vaughn - guess Curly can enjoy himself better now in that the war is over - yes Woodson is sure queer - would like to have seen him when he discovered the sign - no don't figure on me getting old - impossible - younger

every day - yes I sure hated to hear of Morton's defeat - and I hear Alexander is beaten also - yes John was gassed - not bad I don't think - last I heard of him he was in hospital - maybe home or starting by this time - hope we have the chance of loading up before long - but there is still lots of work to do ove rhere - so excpect we will have to help do it - but we don't have to go "over hte top" or dodge the 77's - weather here is damp & cool - have a nice billet - sleep on a big feather bed - sink out of sight when I tumble in - see the "G" goys every day - all OK - Milligan & Farris have not gotten back from leave yet - look for them today - hope all of you are well - I am feeling fine - no news to speak of - had a letter from Albert Clark the other day - sure enjoyed it - got a letter from Elmer yesterday - tickled over the end of the war - tell Ruth I enjoyed her letter and will write her after Xmas holidays - she can read the letters that I write home - Well Dad we will make some changes in office holders when the boys get back 0 cant get over Morton's defeat and also Alexander's - no more news - will have
