[August] 3rd, 1918 Dear Folks:- Am sitting up waiting for Friztie - It is now 1 00 a.m. and I don't go to bed till 4 30 a.m. We are still on the line - don't know when we will get relieved - boys all feeling fine and longing to get more Fritzies. Ray Hughes has left for the States each company had to send one non commissioned officer back to act as instructor so we sent Ray - he hated to leave the boys - will be glad when we are relieved so I can get some clean clothes and take a bath - think my underwear will have to be cut off of me - received a letter from you yesterday

dated June 21st. let the cigars go - will do without them - a request has be be signed by a Colonel or higher - guess you are reading of the big drive going on - believe me it is some fight - hope it continues as it has been - my eating is fine and at present my home is a dug- out - in rest camps we have billets - have never seen any ofthe Funston boys - has Paul left for France yet - guess he has - would like to see him- guess today the candidates are winding up their speeches - would like to be there to put a few in for Morton - hope he makes it with a big majority - well Dad hows business - better I hope - don't know much more news

will try to write you as often as I can - never have heard from Elizabeth - guess she is all sore - well I don't care - a fine little girl but I htink tehre are otehrs - hear from Louise real often - she says she has lost several lbs in weight - hear from Miss Bertha real often - hows all the children - Ruth going away to school I guess - tell her to remember my little advice - she will meet temptations and hardships but just grit her teeth and go on - "When everything seems to be against you taht tis the time to commence your fight" - a true saying here and I think it will hold good in any place - Allan still famring - getting to be quite a man I guess - Honey
