[August] 16th [1918] Dear Folks:- Try to write you a few lines - I look at the date and remember that this is my 24th year - am in the trenches a fine place to spend it - don't know when we will go back for a rest - am looking for some mail real soon - times is sure flying by - nearly time for school to begin - am wondering where Ruth is going - Allan I guess is back from the farm - tell him to have more sense

with his money than I did - I have found out there is nothing to it- so let him profit by experience - weather here has been fine for the last few days - Fritz has been rather great lately - guess he is about due for some - thing exciting - hope he tries to lick us - would like to get a crack at a few of them - guess you folks are scouting the papers - for all war news - looks mighty good to me - have never seen any of the Funston boys - we are quiet a ways from them - U.S. I guess is putting the troops over here - boys are OK and getting

along fine - dont know how much news - everything is much of the same routine here - up all nite sleep most of the day - just the same thing over only some - times a little more exciting - How's the old town these days! dead I guess - taking quite a few of the boys out of these days. it seems a long time since we arrived over here but time has passed very quickly. I am feeling fine - couldn't feel better - hope all of you are as well - Tell everyone hello - will write as often as I can - Must close. Goodnite, Lots of love to all, Your loving son, Kirk.
