Emil Rosenberger Letter to Joseph Boyce - January 1, 1916
Transcript
[January 1, 1916]. Capt. Jos. Boyce, St. Louis, [Missouri]. Dear Capt:- I wish you a Happy New Year. Although the weather is bad here in this part of the world I am up and walking about the room. But I can't go out of doors yet. I am trying to be well enough to be with you at your meeting in March, which will be near St. Patrick's day. I sent some money to Germany for poor women of the town, where I was born and went to school, to buy coal to keep them from freezing while their husbands are fighting Johnny Bull. That money is gone so long that I fear it is lost, and some Englishman has the advantage of it. I am awful tired looking out of the window and seeing no prospect of peace. If it was not for this man Wilson the war would be over and ended long ago. I expect you will be with the boys in Jackson day at the Jefferson, and help start a new boom for Wilson. How are you about that? Your Christmas greeting added cheer to the day. Your friend and comrade, Emil Rosenberger.
