HEADQUARTERS THIRD RESERVE AREA 755 U. S. Court House & Custom House, 12th & Market, Saint Louis, Missouri. May 3, 1938. Subject: Reappointment in the Officers' Reserve Corps. To: 2d Lt. John Lewis Barkley, Inf-Res. Holden, [Missouri] 1. Your current 5-year appointment in the Officers' Reserve Corps, which was without privilege of assignment, promotion, or active duty training in peace time, will expire on November 2, 1938. 2. Army Regulations 140-5 states that:- "Any Reserve officer who completes one 5-year period of appointment in which he was not eligible for assignment, promotion, or active duty training in peace time, will not be reappointed unless:- a. He has obtained a certificate of capacity for his present or higher grade, or, b. He has demonstrated his interest in military affairs by having a written record of at least 200 hours of credit by Extension Course work, attendance at classes, or inactive duty training." 3. Records in this headquarters show t hat during your present appointment period you have not secured a certificate of capacity for your present or higher grade, also that you have earned no hours of inactive duty credits. 4. Should you desire reappointment, it will be necessary for you to meet one of the above requirements on or before August 22, 1938, which is the date this office is required to report on your status. 5. Should you establish your eligibility for reappointment, you will also be required to submit a satisfactory report of physical examination, the form for which will be furnished you when the requirements for reappointment are met. 6. Acknowledgment of receipt of this communication is requested, and a self-addressed envelope which requires no postage, is inclosed herewith. By direction of the Chief of Staff: [signature] R.A.
