Coblenz [Germany] [January] 15 1919 May dear Sister. I am now in Germany after a long long kike to the Rhine. I herd you was very sick. If I had know how bad you were when that battle of Verdun was going on I dont see how I couldn’t have stood it. It sure was terrible. General Sherman was right in his time, but his words of this battle is not strong enough. You know Claude Harrison

he came through fight well and did not get a scratch. He sure is a fine fellow. He picked out a post card out of my pile and said send this to Cora. I am sending you some of the places I have been. Germany is a more beautiful place than France Cologne, [Bonn] Coblenz and Bingham are sure ser - shain towns. I am learning to speak German good and a good deal French my stammering tongue sure mixes right just the thing to speak French and German

[page 3] is easy. You may think these german girls are ugly, but they are more beautiful than the French and believe me they are stranded for a fellow they say I just fill the bill. They say they cant see why the Americans have so clear skin and are so healthy. I tell them they are white men and not all Kisers. One little blondie who is a Ser - shain Madle with field marks say she is comming to America with me. I am beware of some of Europe's girls. I am strong

I could write a ten volumn history I would like to send Mr reed a german pipe. You see I am so glad I am [ms illegible: 1 wd] did fight for so great a nation, and so free a nation, such a true flag, backed up by such peacible people as the greatest nation or country as the U.S.A.
