June 27, 1919 Germany My dear Nick. I just received your letter a short time ago and now am going to answer. The reason I have not answered sooner the brigade which I am in have been on the move across the Rhine. We are now pulled back where we were I suppose they have word that peace will be signed. The 1st 2nd and 4th are on the line awaiting to pounce upon the German Armey if peace is not signed and the third is in support. There is thirty kilometers about twenty two miles between the boche and our armey. We have all of our atillery trained upon their positions towns and if it is not signed, hell will break loose at one moment's notice. These dutchman here are praying for peace and rain

I think they will get peace if they want it and it rained last night They say Germany can't get any one to sign peace they are all afraid. If they will leave it up to one I will sign it for them? Uncle sam will if they don't with this big 16 incher's. These civilians cant do too much for us boys now where we stay, do our washing make our beds and E.T.C. They think we will mop up on them maby. I am sending you all some pictures of some real war scens taken in action on the Flanders front. They were taken by a german officer who risked his life. They are not so bad for he couldnt have taken them if it had have been. Answer soon. I may start home before long Cpl John L Barkley co K 4th inft.
