March 30, 1919. Germany. Dear Mother. I am thinking tonight of home wondering what you all are doing. It is now nine oclock bed time in the states it is three oclock. us boys are not having it so hard as we ust to, not much drill and pleanty to eat and I am sleeping in a feather bed between two sheets as white as snow. There is a boy from [Kentucky] sleeps in the next bed in my room, he is the biggest coward you ever saw. Run ever time he herd canon or a shell whiz and he herd several whiz and never stopped running. He was dethly afraid of machine gun bullet.
