Fort Riley [Kansas] [January] 21 1918 Dear Mother. I suppose you think I am writing real often but I know you are anxious to know every day how I am. I am on my feet now and am feeling well. Is all I do now till the rest of my 21 days are up, to cary feed to the sick. I am thinking of getting a transfer to the medical department. one is sure confined when he does but you see I wouldnt see the firing line. One of my lieutenants was up to see me yesterday. I told him that I wanted a transfer and he said he had a better place for me than that. He said I was too good a shot to nurse a sick man. How is Cockies Ford? Can he run it yet. I dont see any chance of getting a furlough yet, they are going to stop the boys from riding
