Camp Funston [Kansas] [February] 18 1918 Dear Maw. I have got my things packed and ready to go someplace I dont know where. There were 40 of us transfered. I think that we will go east and join the engineers. My captain called me down to the orderly room and told me it fell my lot to go and if I wanted to he would recomend me to stay with the snipers. I told him I was no better than the rest and that I wanted to stay with my friends in my company. Russel is going this time. They picked some of the best men in the company it did not make any difference. We may not leave here for several days yet we do not know. once an order came to pack and when we had packed an order came

conerdicting it. And now we wont leave for three or four days Saturday probably. Whitenburg Stayed. Mr and Mrs J R [ms illegible: 1 wd] was out to see me the other day. They though the camp was great How is Flodie. Probably I know more about her than you. Well I must close for it is bed time. Answer soon if you want me to get it for I may leave Sunday We cant find out where we are going so this means France I think. Answer soon. Your son John.
