Camp Stuart Newport News Co K 4th U.S. inft. Virginia Dear folks I am now in the U.S. regulars upon the [Chesapeake Bay]. am right upon the bay and can look out the window upon the sea. you can see big ocean steamers laying out in the harber some going and some comming. We sure had some trip comming out here. We come through ten states. Kansas, [Missouri] Arkansas, [Tennessee], [Kentucky], Mississippi, Alabama, [South Carolina] [North Carolina] and to the coast Virginia Is the reason we did this was to keep German agents from knowing where we were going. We went under Quarentine for two weeks and you can guess the rest. This sure is going to be some trip if

we live over it. Lots of the boys are dreading the ocean. We had a patroll engine with us all of the time coming out here it was a switch engine tender and one car it run ten minutes ahead of us all the time. They were looking for a bridge to be blown up any time Did the draft get any of Dieicks Did it get Bill Jeeter? When will cocky have to go to Funston. Lots of the boys have long jaws tonight. Well I must close and go to bed. Answer right away for we may leave here in ten days and it will have just about time enough to get here before I leave. Must close. John.
