[November] 6 1918 Somewhere in France. My brother Dock. You may be surprised when you see my name on the outside of this letter. I am back from the front, and believe me I wish I could tell you about the fight and what we did for the Boche. I have just come out of one of the worst battles and the most deciding battle of the war. The American Soldiers are the most gallant, brave, witty and stubborn fighters in the

[page 2] world. I mean "world" that is taking in lots of teritory and lots of good fighters. The French when they came to barb-wire entanglement they just dug in and sat there till the Boche moved them again. Now a different man appears on the Scene clad in OD uniform. The Boche says these men are verry wild and wreckless and won't care what time they come over top or how rough they handle their opponants or what kind of Shotgun or rifle they use. I have a hunch that I am reccomended for something good! something that but few

[page 3] American Soldiers ever wins for I sure did Some work at this front that will neve be forgotton. My officer says I am deserving of it I will write more if I can some day. I hear that some little Miss is going to get Married. Is that the way the Girls of America is going to treat their boys are fighting for them. She wanted to know what I thought. I told her in these phrases - asking just two Questions: "picture my little miss," two men standing before you, one wrapped in the good old American flag and the other wrapped in a yellow flag.
