Camp Funston [November] 2 1917 Dear Cocky, Well I guess we will stay here in this barracks a while, for the lieutenant and the major just came in and announced that we were under quarntene for the measels, and put out two guards at once. Now I have a proposition to put up before you, everbody is going home to shuck corn whethers they have got corn or not just so they regstered as a farmer. they have to have some banker or a notory republic to write it up saying that they have corn and must have your help if it is saved and then you have to have two disenterested partys to sign their names to it and have it made out to Captain Carlson our Captain.

You could have J.G. Farnsworth or Sam Sankey or any banker to do it Sam Sankey is the best for he has written several. Old Dump is going to get off Mac Hobbs, Hon, and dozens of them are going. What do you think of Dump? Now you do this for this is our last vacation we will get for there were 52 qualified as marksman and I was one in the lead. Now we are going to France in January them that qualified so you see this is my last chance to ever see home again [General Leonard Wood] has gone to France to make a survey of our front and pick out our camping place. Now you do this and dont let any one know anything about it.
