Camp Funston [January] 3 1918 Dear Cocky. I have been neglecting to write for I had some reason. probably you say that dam lucky foot has gone crazy. I was recomended by my captain for the sniper sharpshooter school. There were only 18 from this betallion and I was one of the seventeen out of 1000 men. I am excused from drill in the afternoons. This is the only job that I can get that I can be my own boss out in no-mans land picking off the enemies best officers send and getting their information where their truck is located how many guns and how to get to their right. In fact the snipers leads the whole army. I am getting to have a pull with our captain. I practice every night by slipping by guards here and they are around

I am just liable to get killed here practicing as any where. I dont know when I will get to come home, never I guss. we here we are going to the [Philippines] soon to take place of the regulars and they are going to France. How is "Sister." I got a letter from Anna Coleman. She sure is some talker. Say If you want a high powered rifle and a nice little rifle drive out some time you and China Quick and I will get your one, they cost $45 but I can get you one much cheaper than that. well I must close for it is supper time and I am writing on my kneese.
