Fort Riley [Kansas] [January] 20 1918 Dear Cocky. I suppose you are all wondering why I didn't write oftener but you see I have been in bed and did not care to write. I am better now and up and all of the swelling has gown and left me with nothing. I mean nothing. The boys I hear can get weekend passes now from Saturday noon till Monday morning. I will get one I think some Saturday and come home. There's no chance in getting a furlough in time of war. There is 4000 of us boys in this hospital. Most of the mumps goes to the operating table, pneumonia is killing a large % of them now. I hear from Marie Cammel very often. She wants me to get a furlough mighty bad.
