Barger, Charles D. Collection
Private Charles D. Barger from Mt. Vernon, Missouri, served in Company L, 384th Infantry, in the 89th Division. He served overseas from June 4, 1918 until May 22, 1919. For his extraordinary military service Barger was awarded four medals of Honor with citations. These medals include the Montenegro, or “Medal for Bravery”, the French Valor Medal, the Italian War Cross, and the U.S. Congressional Medal of Honor.
