Description | The USS St. Louis went into active duty during WWI on April 6, 1917, the day the United States formally entered the war. Named for the city of St. Louis, Missouri, the ship was designated a protective cruiser and was assigned to escort convoy troops across the Atlantic Ocean to the European theatre. The ship was later sold for scrap in 1930. |
