U.S. Infantry Canteen

Details

Title U.S. Infantry Canteen
Description Canteens were used to keep drinking water close at hand for soldiers. While out on patrol or on the front lines, soldiers potentially could be cut off from supply depots, so it was crucial to have a supply of drinking water on hand for basic survival. The carrying Bag allowed for a soldier to clip his canteen to his carriage belt, or hang of his haversack while retaining easy access to it while marching or fighting. Canteens are an ancient invention and have been made from animal bladders, gourds, ceramics, wood, and by the time of WWI, metals.
