U.S. 1918 Wire Cutters with Holster

Details

Title U.S. 1918 Wire Cutters with Holster
Description Many different varieties of wire cutters made their way onto the battlefields of France during WWI, this example is a U.S. Army model 1918 set. Their primary function was to cut through strings of barbed wire that weaved through no man’s land between trench lines. Barbed wire was a simple but formidable defense for soldiers to overcome, as the wire was often obscured visually by smoke or debris. Solders crawled out of the trenches on their belly and cut wire to assist with future offensive attack through no man’s land.
