Spandau Gun
Details
Title | Spandau Gun |
Description | German Spandau Gun. Developed by the German air service and manufactured by the Spandau Arsenal, it was a modification of the Maxim MG08 used by infantrymen. This machine gun was mounted in front of the pilot and utilized a variety of cocking handles so the weapon could be operated in flight. The infantry version was water cooled, but it proved to be impractical when mounted on an airplane. Therefore, the water jacket was perforated to make it air cooled. The Spandau weighed 26 pounds and had a range of 2,200 yards. |
